Larnaka Festival

Organiser: Municipality of Larnaca

The Larnaka Festival is considered as one of the most successful institutions created by the Cultural Services of the Municipality of Larnaca. Taking a historical look back, the Larnaca Festival began timidly in 1985, lasting only a week and taking place solely in the Medieval Castle. However, much has changed since then. Since 1987, the Festival has lasted a whole month and has decentralized. The Patticheio Municipal Amphitheatre, the main pier of Larnaca, the Medieval Castle, the area of the Old Aqueduct ‘KAMARES,’ and the area of Ancient Kition are some of the venues where the various events of the Festival take place.

Throughout its journey over time, the Larnaca Festival has evolved into a modern cultural institution that counts thousands of friends and enjoys appreciation for the aesthetics and completeness of the cultural proposals it presents every summer.

Incomparable creators, major theater protagonists, and other significant artistic names have honored the Larnaca Festival and have elevated it to a cultural beacon for the entire Cyprus.

A significant moment for the Festival is its awarding with the EFFE Label 2015-2016 by the Cyprus Center of the International Theatre Institute. The established Festival of the Municipality of Larnaca has been distinguished among the most qualitative European Festivals for the year 2015-2016, among 761 Festivals from 31 countries.
