Larnaca Municipal Historical Archive Museum

Museum – Municipality of Larnaca

The Larnaca Municipal Historical Archive Museum was founded in 2003 by the Municipality of Larnaca and is housed on the ground floor of the two-storey colonial building (English colonial) next to the Europe Square, on Athens Avenue. The building was built around 1880 and was originally the house and office of the first English architect and port master of Larnaca, Mr. Robert Robson. In 1996 it was granted by the Republic of Cyprus to the Municipality of Larnaca, to house the exhibits of the City Archive, while it was restored in 2001 with a donation from the Nikos and Despina Pattichi Foundation.

The Museum includes thematic sections such as: the philosopher Zenonas Kiteas, theatre in the city, photographs, postcards, maps and engravings showing Larnaca from the 18th century, the Feast of the Flood, post office, printing house, Municipal Philharmonic, education in Larnaca, old tools, machines (old scales, negative photo printing machine, sock machine, generator, printing machine, printing press, calculator, etc

The Museum welcomes with pleasure and a sense of responsibility the proposals it receives for the donation of objects that fall within its character. A significant part of its collections comes from donations. Most of the exhibits include donations for the purpose of preserving, conserving and promoting the social and intellectual development of the city’s history. The donors are not only from Larnaca but from all over the country, and also include Cypriots from abroad.

The museum’s exhibits are changed from time to time and from time to time temporary exhibitions are held at the site, as well as other events such as the International Museum Day (18 May) etc.
