Larnaca Municipal Art Gallery

The five stone-built, restored, colonial-style warehouses of the Customs House have been the Larnaca Municipal Gallery since 1995 and are located in Europe Square. They are integrated into the social fabric of the city, contributing in many ways to the consolidation of the visual arts in Larnaca and throughout Cyprus.

The halls house the Larnaca Municipal Gallery, which includes mostly works by Cypriot artists. In these halls there are periodic exhibitions of painting, sculpture etc., thus creating a permanent living art centre in the heart of Larnaca.

The Larnaca Municipal Art Gallery hosts large group or thematic exhibitions of individuals who have made a name for themselves in the field of arts in Cyprus and abroad. A point of reference is the hosting of the Larnaca Biennale. Major solo and group exhibitions are organized as well as other exhibitions in collaboration with galleries, museums and other cultural institutions in Cyprus and abroad.

The operation of the Municipal Gallery allows for constant change, thus offering the opportunity for friends of the fine arts to enjoy and come into contact with works of art from various currents and styles.

PERMANENT COLLECTION OF THE MUNICIPAL GALLERY

However, the main element in the operation of the Larnaca Municipal Gallery is its permanent collection of artworks. The collection consists of works by Cypriot and other artists and presents contemporary art. Many of the Cypriot artists have made their own mark in the international art scene and several of them have been awarded prizes in international competitions. The collection features a large number of works in oils, watercolours, prints, sculptures, etc.

Within the activities of the Municipal Gallery, educational programmes for pre-school, primary and secondary school children are implemented.”
